Esjan - part II

We did it - Birta and me. Walked Esjan to the stone marked "Steinn" (Stone....) and back of course. Then had some skyr for a very late dinner with Rebekka. Thinking of going swimming after work today - if that is not too energetic!

Esjan

Thinking of walking on Esja today - depends what time I finish work. It is now almost 6 in the afternoon and we are still busy. At least the evenings are still long so I can't use the darkness as an excuse!

Greta's party!

Greta's 40th birthday party was nice and very civilized. All her friends and commorades from Sjálfstæðisflokkurinn (Iceland's old Independance party) were there enjoying a glass of wine and some canapes. Good to see Elín Rögnvalds again.

Then went for a dinner at Cafe Viktor with Dora - really nice to see her for a long chat and good food.

My parents are back from their trip around Iceland with Kristin and Daniel - they had lovely weather in the east and enjoyed seeing all the mountains, glaciers and water falls.

Grown up yet?

25 SIGNS YOU HAVE GROWN UP!

1. Your houseplants are alive, and you can't smoke
any of them.

2. Having sex in a bunk bed is out of the question.

3. You keep more food than beer in the fridge.

4. 6:00am is when you get up, not when you go to bed.

5. You hear your favourite song in a shopping centre.

6. You watch the ABC.

7. Your friends marry and divorce instead of "hook up"
and "break up."

8. You go from 130 days of vacation time to 20. This
is the worst one!

9. Jeans and a sweater no longer qualify as "dressed
up."

10. You're the one calling the police because those
%&;@# kids next door won't turn down the stereo.

11. Older relatives feel comfortable telling sex
jokes around you.

12. Your car insurance goes down and your car payments
go up.

13. You feed your pet Science Diet instead of
McDonald's leftovers.

14. Sleeping on the couch makes your back hurt.

15. You take weekend naps from noon

16. Dinner and a movie is the whole date instead of
the beginning of one.

17. Eating a kebab at 3 AM would severely upset,
rather than settle, your stomach.

18. You go to the chemist for Mylanta and antacid,
not condoms and pregnancy tests.

19. A $4.00 bottle of wine is no longer "pretty good
stuff."

20. You actually eat breakfast food at breakfast time.

21. "I just can't drink the way I used to" replaces
"I'm never going to drink that much again!"

22. 90% of the time you spend in front of a computer is
for real work.

23. You drink at home to save money before going to a
bar.

24. You read this entire list looking desperately for
one sign that doesn't apply to you and can't find one
to save your sorry old butt.
Then you forward it to a bunch of old friends cause
you know they'll have the same problem.

BONUS: When you find out your friend is pregnant you congratulate
them instead of asking "Oh Sh*t What Happened?"

"Rauðhetta 2006" at Grenivik

It was fun... and the sun did shine.

Over 300 people arrived to camp, swim, eat, drink, dance and get to know each other at Grenivik campside this weekend! Most of the extended family behaved really well but I am proud to announce that the descendents of Sigþór Jóhannsson lasted the longest at the party, sang the loudest and to confess all - managed to have a small version of "Rauðhetta 2006" in their corner of the campsite without burning anything down. Long lost family meeting up, a bunch of kids, dogs, shared food, good wine and a lot of laughter.

The Saturday night party was as surreal as I had expected with people talking at increasing speed as the bottles emptied and the night got darker - and Geir from Grýtubakki sang country music, karaoki style. Sandra and Silja had a go at singing on stage and a cousin from Norway performed a Michael Jackson style dance. We sang a lot of my grandfather's Skafti old songs which was nice and nostalgic - and danced the night away.

P.S. Comment from the teenagers as they saw pictures of Johann Bessason, farmer and carpenter from Skarð (my great-great grandfather, wellknown for being a great craftsman but ugly as the sin...) :"How could such ugly people manage to have such good looking decendants!" Hehe - good one girls ;)

Grenivík

What a place to visit for the meeting of the clan. The extended family , descendants from Johann Bessason - farmer at Skarð, will be meeting this weekend, for games, party and fun up north. It will be a shame to drive out of the sunshine and into the rain, but hopefully worth it :o)

Have a great and sunny weekend everyone!

Sunshine in Reykjavík!

Woke up early and went to the pool before heading to the office. Finally some sunshine in Reykjavík and even though we would all like to have a day off because of the nice weather we have nothing but smiling people in the office.

Great day yesterday - busy at work and then I went with Rebekka to Hagkaup to do some clothes shopping for the kids at the sale. Got Eiríkur two pairs of trousers and Sandra got a new shirt. They are growing so quickly!

My mother cooked us very nice fish for dinner - and we even got waffles with chocolate sauce and whipped cream so we were full and happy going back to Hringbraut.

Looking forward to the weekend up north!

Another day in the office...

Spent the morning at home - nice long bath, read the papers and had some tea before going to the office at noon. Walked the dog after work - rain, wind, sunshine, all types of weather!

Lazy evening in front of the tv - really want to continue reading Gabriel Garcia Marques' autobiography but worry that I will just fall a sleep and I want to stay up a little longer! Will read in bed :o)

New Haircut

Rebekka looks lovely with her new haircut. She came to the office to get the car (and leave the dog with me...)and was off in a hurry to visit her friend Sunna. Poor Sunna had to have a small operation and Rebekka was going over with a lot of TLC for her.

Planning to swim tonight and go early to bed. In this order.

Evenings off!

Two evenings off in a row! The Russians and Germans are in such bad weather out on the Atlantic Ocean that they are not coming to Reykjavík tomorrow. The Russians will in fact sail past Iceland but the Germans are delayed one day. 10 m waves - the poor people must be so sea-sick....

But this has left us some time off from work - so Rebekka and I went out last night for a lovely vegetarian meal at a restaurant "A næstu grösum" followed by a walk down-town. Tonight I am on my own so I went to the pool for a 1000 m swim and now it is time to do some house cleaning... or read a book! I think Gabriel Garcia Marques' autobiography (Living to tell the Tale) will win in popularity contest and housecleaning will have to wait a little longer hehe!

Rain in Reykjavík

A bit of a cold and dreary day today so it is good to be in the office and not down by the pier. No ship in Reykjavík today - two in Ísafjörður! Nex on the list is to deal with three very different ships - one German, one Russian and one from Finnland!!! Great mix :o)

"Sailing" in Spain :o)

Terra Mitiga was great fun for everyone!!!

The Merry-go-round!

Kids wanted to ride away like in Mary Poppins - but this little Merry-go-round just kept going round and round!

More shipping news...

Now that the Queen has left there is space for the Sea Princess to arrive. Monday will be a big day on the pier with Sea Princess and Aida Blu both in Reykjavík with 3700 pax combined. Therre will be about 60 busses on the road so don't visit Gullfoss and Geysir on Monday!

I got out of the office at a reasonable hour yesterday and went for a swim in Laugardalur. I swam 1000 m and spent some time in the jacuzzi afterwards. Such a nice evening. Came home to my cat and dog - Rebekka at a party until late!

Today is another day in the office. Preparing for the Sea Princess, Aida Blu and MV Europa on Wednesday. More fun awaiting us all!!

No news...

Dealing with Costa Atlantica in the rain at 7 in the morning - 2400 passangers speaking at least 5 different languages!

Clipper Adventurer in the afternoon with only 100 passangers. I think I would rather travel with them. The Adventurer will be in Antartica for Christmas and New Year - I might just join them!!!!

Another long day at work.

Sunday at work

Saturday was nice - Sandra and I went swimming with Berglind and her daughter Þórdís and then on to Greta and Gisli in Grafarvogur. Eiríkur stayed with his friend Snorri and Rebekka was working.

Nice party at Greta's yesterday afternoon. Emma was happy to be 8 years old and loved all her presents! Sissa was there with Kristrún, enjoying a little break from her ÞSSÍ job in Malawi, Africa. Tanya and Larus turned up with their kids and there was a lot of chatting going on!

I have been up since 5:30 this morning, busy with the Clipper turnaround. We spent all morning at Hotel Nordica and then had lunch with our pax at Kaffi Reykjavík to see off our pax who were going to do a Reykjavik City Sightseeing tour. Will be working until late tonight.

Saturday!

Started the morning at work - tomorrow is a big day with the Clipper Adventurer and its three day programme.

Then we have Emma Katrin's birthday party and later on a nice dinner at Hringbraut before taking the kids to David for a two week stay.

Lovely dinner with my parents last night - really nice lamb a la Eiríkur!
