More Photos from Hnjúkurinn!

Five in the morning and we are on our way to meet our guides. I am up but not awake at that point! I managed to leave my "climing" belt behind on my pillow.... (the one that is used for the safety rope) but I got a "race car" driver to get me to the overnight hut (also known as THE Base Camp!) and back in five secods flat! And NO - I did not sleep in the belt for added security, I was just reorganizing my backpack before waking up properly :)
Looking happy and hopeful at the beginning of the hike - I am waking up at this point :)
And the brilliant hike starts in the slight drizzle...
... and continues in a some fog and fresh snow...
When we come to the edge of the glacier I am happy to have my belt with me 'cause it time that we get in a line for the main part of the journey.
By this time I am wide awake and very excited about the hike on the glacier :)
And we walk on and on and on ... and I am still smiling!
And guess what her I am keeping that silly grin on my face even though the mountain seems to be endless at this point!
To our amazement we walk out of the cloud and enjoy this beautiful view to the peak - 2111 m high!
I simply loved the glacier and the view.
And we make it to the top!!!!!
My wonderful walking partners, through rain and shine, for better or for worse, in sickness and in health, on we walk together ;)
And here is the photographer on top of the world!!
The glacier was full of cracks so we had to practice the art of jumping!
End of the glacier trail - and just imagine - we are all still smiling :)

Takk fyrir myndirnar Hermann, erfitt að velja á milli, þær voru allar mjög góðar :)

Hvannadalshnúkur!

A tick in the box. DONE.

I just came back from this weekends hike of climbing Hvannadalshnjúkur - 2111 meters high glacier, the highest point of Iceland. A memorable weekend with great people, lots of support, friendship and smiles :)

Thank you all!

Hmmm I think Kilimanjaro is the only one left on the list from 2006... It might just end up being my next goal?

A Long weekend!

We had a lovely weekend, BBQ, party, summerhouse with Dora and family and then a movie on Monday night (The Hunting Party - pretty good!)

Some brilliant pictures from the summerhouse - Eiríkur and Sandra loved playing with an looking after the twins Lára Guðbjörg and Theodór.

"Indian Mango"

Lovely evening spent with my co-teachers from the International School. We started with great Mojitos' cocktails at Russell's flat (loved the view over to Mt. Esja!) and then on to a super meal at "Indian Mango". I enjoyed the vindaloo beef vey much which I shared with Russell but most people preferred some of the milder dishes which were also very nice!

A long weekend ahead of us :)

Skjaldbreiður - my most favorite mountain!

I just love this mountain. Skjaldbreiður has given these types of vulcanos its name "shield" vulcano. One day I will climb it - or perhaps drive it on ice and snow in some type of motorized vehicle when the time os right...

Looking forward to it :)

Takk fyrir myndirnar Hermann!!

More photos from Eyjafjallajökull!

Takk fyrir myndirnar HGB :)
