"Rauðhetta 2006" at Grenivik
It was fun... and the sun did shine.
Over 300 people arrived to camp, swim, eat, drink, dance and get to know each other at Grenivik campside this weekend! Most of the extended family behaved really well but I am proud to announce that the descendents of Sigþór Jóhannsson lasted the longest at the party, sang the loudest and to confess all - managed to have a small version of "Rauðhetta 2006" in their corner of the campsite without burning anything down. Long lost family meeting up, a bunch of kids, dogs, shared food, good wine and a lot of laughter.
The Saturday night party was as surreal as I had expected with people talking at increasing speed as the bottles emptied and the night got darker - and Geir from Grýtubakki sang country music, karaoki style. Sandra and Silja had a go at singing on stage and a cousin from Norway performed a Michael Jackson style dance. We sang a lot of my grandfather's Skafti old songs which was nice and nostalgic - and danced the night away.
P.S. Comment from the teenagers as they saw pictures of Johann Bessason, farmer and carpenter from Skarð (my great-great grandfather, wellknown for being a great craftsman but ugly as the sin...) :"How could such ugly people manage to have such good looking decendants!" Hehe - good one girls ;)
